Requirements

Students are able to earn up to 2.0 hours academic credit per semester for internships. A maximum of 4.0 credit hours may be earned to satisfy one elective toward the MBA program requirements. Students who earn credit for part-time internships are expected to work an average of 14 hours/week for 15 weeks or 210 hours during that term. Internships may be paid or unpaid depending upon the organization.

Learning Content

All internships developed for this program must have a primary focus on providing a rich graduate-level experience appropriate for an MBA candidate. Project work of the nature previously described is the preferred content for these internships. Internships comprised of low-level work and/or routine administrative duties are not appropriate for this program. The environmental context of the internship is a critical part of the internship content and as such should be a successful small business, non-profit or corporate setting.

Supervision

All interns should have regular direct access to management preferably from the senior and/or executive levels of the particular organization. This may include or be in addition to the direct internship supervisor. Interns benefit from having the opportunity for informal mentoring within the organization.

Deliverables

Both interns and supervisors should complete the following semester paperwork during the internship semester. Detailed information will be provided separately. Copies of all documents are from the COB GRADUATE STUDENT ORGANIZATION which is found under MY Organizations inside the Blackboard Portal.

  • Learning Objectives
  • Monthly Work Time Log
  • Mid-term Evaluations From Student and Employer
  • Final Evaluation From Student
  • Employer Internship Final Report

Grades

Internship grades are given as pass/fail or S/U credit only. Please note that grades for internship credit are not calculated in the G.P.A. Final grades will be based on successful completion of the previously mentioned deliverables. In addition, all interns must earn an average score of 3 (“Meets job expectations”) or higher on the employer midterm and final evaluations in order to receive a passing grade. An “I” (incomplete) grade will be issued for internships until all requirements are met. Once requirements are met, a grade of “S” (satisfactory) will be issued. An “I” grade will change to a “U” (unsatisfactory) if you have not completed the requirements by the stated deadline.
